Tumescent liposculpting is a technique of liposuction that allows patients to be treated in an outpatient setting without the problems associated with general anesthesia and the cost of hospitalization. Traditional liposculpting has been done in in-patient settings, with general anesthesia for over a decade. Tumescent Liposculpting builds on that foundation and addresses many of the problems associated with traditional liposuction treatment.

Tumescent liposculpting uses a very dilute local anesthetic to inject into the fat. The slow absorpotion rate allows much larger areas to be treated than anyone had previously realized. In addition, this dilute fluid makes the fat easier to remove, has antiseptic properties and reduces bleeding and pain for 48 hours after the procedure.

Using the dilute anesthesia fluid for fat removal has become known as the “Tumescent or wet technique”. The dilute anesthesia solution is slowly administered into the area to be treated, over 60-90 minutes. The physician then contours and shapes the area by removing fat through a small cannula. The patient leaves with minimal pain and a compression garment that allows most people to return to work in 72 hours. Most people can discontinue the compression garment and resume exercise within three weeks.

After 3-6 months, the skin will contract and shrink to fit the treatment zone. Two or three ultrasound massage treatments will speed the healing.

The tumescent technique allows the removal of inches without the complications and cost of general anesthesia or a hospital stay. Contact Centennial Cosmetic Surgery Center to schedule a complimentary cosmetic consultation.
